Hi, friends! Last week, we talked about the myth of career planning.
A few highlights from that post:
You canât plan your career because you have no idea whatâs going to happen in the future. Career planning = career limiting.
Career planning = being continuously alert to opportunities that present themselves to you.
A few questions for introspection:
What opportunities are you pursuing right now?
Are you working on problems worth solving?
Are you working towards a meaningful career?
80,000 Hours is a non-profit that provides research and support to help people switch into careers that effectively tackle the world's most pressing problems. I have started reading their key ideas, and it is an eye-opener. No abrupt career change needed. No matter what one is working on right now, it is helpful to reflect on how one might impact the world at large.
Examining your own 80,000 hours would take time and thought. For now, let me share Peter Diamandisâ concept of a Massively transformative purpose (MTP).
What makes a great MTP?
It is uniquely yours.
It completely inspires you.
Neither narrow nor even technology specific.
Aimed at the heart and the mind.
Declared with sincerity and confidence.
Some examples of MTP:
âIdeas worth spreadingâ - TED
âOrganize the worldâs informationâ - Google
âA world without cashâ - Mastercard
I personally donât have a clear MTP yet, and this is something I promise to work on. How beautiful could the world be with people having bright north stars? Do you already have one?
P.S. One major change: Monday Minutes will now continue to come out randomly. Be it a Monday or not. Whenever the ideas are ready, Iâll just go with the flow. :)
